Despite the maternal death rate falling significantly, the
level among those mothers with pre-existing medical and mental health problems
has stayed the same. Mothers to be are urged not to stop taking their
medication before they have spoken to their GP.
The authors of the report conclude that maternal deaths
from indirect causes, "are still not being addressed effectively”.
